Authorities noticed a discrepancy in the vehicle identification numbers on the license disc and the body of the car, prompting a closer investigation. Subsequent inquiries confirmed that the car had indeed been reported stolen over a decade ago in Komani. Following the discovery, a 31-year-old male driver was apprehended by a joint task team at the Nerston Port of Entry, located on the South Africa-Eswatini border. The driver is set to appear in the Amsterdam magistrate’s court on Monday to face charges of possessing a suspected stolen vehicle, with the potential for additional charges related to motor vehicle theft. The provincial police commissioner, Lt Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, commended the team for the successful recovery of the vehicle after such a long period.
