Position Overview: Administration Clerk – Admissions (Fees Department)
Number of Positions: 4
Salary: R216,417 per annum
Location: Groote Schuur Hospital, Observatory
Essential Requirements
Educational Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Senior Certificate or its equivalent, with Mathematics and/or Accountancy as passed subjects. Alternatively, relevant experience or competencies that align with the Key Performance Areas (KPAs) of the role may be considered.
Experience:
Applicants should have relevant experience in a fees-related environment, demonstrating an understanding of hospital billing procedures.
Job Requirements:
Candidates must be willing to work shifts, including night duty, weekends, and public holidays, and should be prepared to rotate between different departments as necessary.
Key Competencies
Successful candidates will possess the following skills:
- Computer Literacy: Proficiency in using computer systems for patient administration and billing.
- Knowledge of Hospital Systems: Familiarity with Hospital Fees Memorandum 18, UPFS (Uniform Patient Fee Schedule), HIS (Hospital Information System), Clinicom, and relevant billing and finance protocols.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication abilities, crucial for interacting with patients and healthcare staff.
- Confidentiality: A commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and handling sensitive information responsibly.

Duties and Responsibilities
The selected Administration Clerks will undertake the following tasks:
- Conducting accurate patient assessments and admissions using Clinicom and updating the Hectis system.
- Managing a busy telephone line, providing assistance and information as needed.
- Providing coverage for colleagues and performing various clerical tasks as required.
- Handling state funds responsibly and accurately.
- Processing debit charge entries to invoices in accordance with UPFS and PGWC billing procedures.
- Generating invoices in alignment with hospital fees policies.
