Job Overview
Assistant Accountant Role Description
The Assistant Accountant will be responsible for ensuring financial data accuracy, adherence to industry standards, and providing key support to financial operations. Reporting to the Financial Accountant, this role involves working with data analysis, compliance, and stakeholder engagement to enhance financial processes.

Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and enforce safety, security, and environmental standards.
- Prepare and submit monthly performance reports to the line manager.
- Generate insightful monthly off-mine reports aligned with operational and financial dashboards.
- Ensure compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and De Beers’ financial policies.
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable management.
- Prepare and reconcile Balance Sheets and Income Statements on a monthly basis.
- Assist with annual Insurance Declarations and compile technical assessments.
- Support Financial Shared Services in clearing Goods Received but Not Invoiced (GRIR).
- Manage intercompany balances and ensure reconciliation.
- Administer petty cash, fuel cards, and expense tracking.
- Facilitate external audits by providing necessary documentation and support.
- Review and process manual financial transactions.
- Ensure accurate Tax & VAT compliance, including group tax reporting.
- Implement and continuously improve financial policies and internal controls.
- Supervise and mentor direct reports, fostering a high-performance culture.
Qualifications & Experience
Educational Requirements:
- Degree or National Diploma in Accounting or equivalent financial qualification.
Experience Required:
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in the mining industry.
- Strong knowledge and experience with SAP financial systems.
- Proven ability to adhere to deadlines and deliver high-quality financial reports.
- Experience in both open-pit and underground mining will be advantageous.
- Prior exposure to project or construction finance environments.
Additional Requirements:
- Valid EC/Code 8 Driver’s License.
- Ability to work independently without constant supervision.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with InEight software will be an added advantage.
