About the HR Internship Programme

The City of Johannesburg (CoJ), through its Group Corporate & Shared Services (GCSS) Department, is offering an internship designed for graduates with a passion for Human Resources. The internship, which spans 18 months, provides a robust learning experience in the core areas of HR management.

Position: Human Capital Management Intern
Department: Group Corporate & Shared Services (GCSS)
Contract Duration: 18 months
Monthly Stipend: R9,531.54
Workplace: 158 Civic Boulevard, Metro Centre, Braamfontein

Key Responsibilities of the HR Internship

As an HR intern, you will work closely with the HR team, helping to support various human resources processes and functions. Responsibilities include:

  • Administrative Support: Assist with HR administrative tasks, including system and procedural control.
  • Employment Coordination: Oversee specific processes related to staff employment.
  • Data Management: Compile qualitative and quantitative data for inclusion in mandatory reports.
  • Meeting and Hearing Support: Facilitate arrangements for HR subcommittee meetings and handle support for dispute hearings.

Essential Qualifications and Requirements

To be eligible for this internship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Background: Completion of, or final-year standing in, a Degree, National Diploma, or N6 certificate in Human Resource Management or a related field.
  • Proof of Enrollment: For students still in the process of completing their studies, an enrollment confirmation letter is required from the institution.

Skills and Competencies

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Computer Proficiency: Competent with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication abilities, especially in English, to interact effectively with team members and stakeholders.
  • Detail-Oriented and Accurate: A meticulous approach to tasks, with strong planning and organizational abilities.
  • Collaborative Mindset: Ability to work well in a team and uphold values of integrity, professionalism, and customer service (aligned with Batho Pele principles).
