Job Role and Purpose

The main goal of the General Worker role is to support the maintenance team in keeping mining equipment functioning efficiently. By following strict safety protocols and industry codes, the General Worker ensures the equipment operates reliably, which is crucial for both safety and productivity in the mining industry.

Key Responsibilities

As a General Worker in Sasol’s mining division, your duties will include:

  • Task Execution: Complete assigned job-specific tasks accurately, following detailed checklists to ensure that all work is completed to the highest standards.
  • Safety Inspection: Conduct visual inspections of the workplace to ensure compliance with safety regulations and report any potential hazards to your supervisor.
  • Maintenance Standards: Use standard operating procedures (SOPs) and codes of practice (COPs) to maintain high housekeeping standards in your work area.
  • Team Collaboration: Work effectively with your team to meet shared goals. Cooperation and communication are key to achieving success in a fast-paced environment like mining.
  • Cost Awareness: Stay aware of how your work affects the team’s expenses. Look for opportunities to reduce costs without compromising safety or quality.
  • Reporting: Keep detailed records of all actions taken on the job to maintain transparency and accountability.
  • Daily Support: Assist with daily tasks, providing general support to the maintenance team and other personnel as needed.

Minimum Requirements for the Position

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following qualifications:

  • Educational Background: A Matric/N3 qualification is required.
  • Additional Skills (Advantageous):
    • Knowledge of science and math.
    • A valid driver’s license.
    • Previous experience working in the mining industry or with conveyor systems.
  • Experience: Although not mandatory, having 12 months of experience working with conveyor systems will give you an edge over other applicants.
