Job Overview: Millwright Apprentice

Location: Sasolburg & Secunda, South Africa

As a Millwright Apprentice, participants will undergo rigorous training to meet the National Artisan Moderation Board (NAMB) and Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) standards.

Key Responsibilities and Training Components

Technical Training and Practical Exposure

  • Master the fundamentals of plant, mine, and equipment maintenance.
  • Learn to interpret technical documentation for maintenance procedures.
  • Gain expertise in the planning and work management system.
  • Understand industrial process flows and their relevance to millwright operations.

Safety and Risk Management

  • Adhere to Sasol’s Safety Management Systems (IMS, MBO, etc.).
  • Participate in hazard identification and risk assessments.
  • Apply emergency procedures in high-risk environments.
  • Attend toolbox talks and contribute to plant safety enhancements.

Performance & Teamwork

  • Engage in morning strategy meetings to align tasks with business objectives.
  • Provide regular progress updates to supervisors and group leaders.
  • Take part in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) initiatives to prevent system failures.
  • Maintain good housekeeping standards and ensure waste management compliance.

Qualifications & Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for the Millwright Learnership at Sasol, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Educational Requirements

  • Matric (Grade 12) with Mathematics & Science or equivalent N3 qualification.
  • Strong understanding of technical drawings and schematics.

Experience & Skills Development

  • 0 – 1 year of relevant experience (entry-level position).
