Key Responsibilities
Daily Duties and Preparations
- Signing on Duty
- Report to the designated workplace and receive duty assignments.
- Follow allocated duties for the entire shift duration.
- Locomotive Preparation
- Determine the designated locomotive for the day.
- Collect and install necessary equipment on the locomotive.
- Conduct checks and supplement prescribed equipment.
- Assist with the locomotive start-up process.
- Perform brake tests in collaboration with the Train Driver.
- Clean and organize the work area.
- Pre-Trip Inspections
- Conduct a thorough pre-trip inspection of locomotives and trains.
- Verify train roadworthiness and compliance with operational standards.
- Attach and detach vehicles based on the works order.
- Complete required documentation, including vehicle lists and brake test forms.
Enroute Responsibilities
- Communication and Coordination
- Operate and maintain communication devices such as radios, walkie-talkies, and telemeters.
- Compare signal positions with the Train Driver to ensure alignment.
- Monitoring and Emergency Support
- Monitor train conditions during the journey, reporting deviations or incidents promptly.

Qualifications and Experience
- Educational Requirements
- A Grade 12 certificate with Pure Mathematics and/or Physical Science.
- Age and Height Specifications
- Applicants must be 21 years or older and at least 1.6 meters tall.
- Medical Fitness
